DIG Kayode Egbetokun was born on 4th September 1964 in the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Honors) in Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He further pursued his academic pursuits at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Engineering Analysis and acquiring certifications in Electronic Data Processing and Computer Programming.
He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Lagos State University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, and a Ph.D. in Peace and Security Studies from Al-hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Kayode Egbetokun embarked on his career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990.
He has served in various commands, formations, and departments within the police force. He began as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2005. Subsequently, he held the position of Commander RRS Lagos State Command from 2005 to 2007. He also served as O/C Anti-Fraud in the FCT Command in Abuja and as CSP Admin in the Lagos State Command. Throughout his career, he held the roles of Area Commander in Osogbo, Osun State, and Gusau, Zamfara State.
Moreover, Egbetokun assumed leadership positions such as Commandant of the Police Training School (PTS) in Ikeja, Lagos State, and Deputy Commandant of the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos State. He also served as the Commissioner of Police for various departments and commands, including Servicom Force Headquarters in Abuja, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) in FHQ, Kwara State Command, and Admin Medical Falomo in Lagos State. Additionally, he held the position of AIG Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja and served as the DIG of the Force Criminal Investigations Department in FHQ, Abuja.
Currently, he holds the post of Acting Inspector General of Police. He replaces Usman Baba, who was appointed as the Inspector General of Police by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.
