Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja was born on the 28th of February, 1968 in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, Osun State. His early education began at the Local Authority Teachers College Demonstration School in Osogbo, where he attended from 1973 to 1979. He then proceeded to St Charles Grammar School in Osogbo, where he completed his secondary education from 1979 to 1984. Afterward, Major T.A. Lagbaja enrolled at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, from 1984 to 1986, where he obtained the West African School Certificate (Advanced Level).
In pursuit of his military career, he was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 39th Regular Course on 12 September 1987. This marked the beginning of his professional training.
After completing his training, Major T.A. Lagbaja was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 19 September 1992, joining the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps. Throughout his career, he held various command, staff, and instructional appointments, showcasing his leadership abilities and commitment to service.
He served as a Platoon Commander in the 93 Battalion from 1992 to 1995 and later in the 72 Special Forces Battalion from 1995 to 2001. During this time, he also took on the role of an Instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy from 2001 to 2004. Major T.A. Lagbaja’s expertise expanded as he became a Grade 2 Staff Officer in charge of peacekeeping at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Training and Operations in 2004.
Continuing his professional growth, he served as a Grade 2 Staff Officer in charge of training at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College from July 2005 to February 2006. He further contributed to the development of military personnel as a Directing Staff at the same institution from 2006 to 2009. Major T.A. Lagbaja’s career progressed with his appointment as the Deputy Chief of Staff G1 (Administration) at Headquarters 81 Division from 2009 to 2012.
His command experience includes serving as the Commanding Officer of the 72 Special Forces Battalion in Makurdi from 2012 to 2013 and again from 2014 to 2015. Notably, Major T.A. Lagbaja held the position of Chief of Staff at Headquarters 8 Task Force Division in Monguno from 2016 to 2017, playing a crucial role in operations. He also served as the Acting Director of Operations at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Training and Operations from January to December 2018.
Major T.A. Lagbaja’s leadership was further demonstrated as he commanded the Headquarters 9 Brigade in Ikeja, Lagos State, from December 2018 to April 2019, and later the Headquarters 2 Brigade in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from April 2019 to January 2020. From January 2020 to March 2021, he assumed the role of Director Force Generation at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Training and Operations. Major T.A. Lagbaja then became the General Officer Commanding at Headquarters 82 Division from March 2021 to August 2022. Currently, he serves as the General Officer Commanding at Headquarters 1 Division since August 2022.
On June 2023, Major T.A. Lagbaja got appointed as the Chief of Army Staff.
