Call for Climate Solutions: Early-Stage Businesses in Africa Invited to Apply

P4G is now accepting applications for innovative partnerships focused on climate mitigation and adaptation solutions across key sectors such as food, energy, and water. African partnerships, particularly from Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Africa, are encouraged to apply. Each partnership must include at least one early-stage business and one nonprofit organization, implementing solutions in one of P4G’s eligible countries: Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, and Vietnam.

The goal is to support projects that deliver tangible benefits such as poverty alleviation, gender equity, and economic growth. Eligible sub-sectors include climate-smart agriculture, reducing food loss and waste, water resilience, zero-emission mobility, and renewable energy.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must meet the following ten criteria:

  1. Partnership Composition: Must include at least one early-stage climate business and one nonprofit administrative partner.
  2. Experience and Expertise: Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and expertise across relevant sectors, countries, and regulatory environments.
  3. Sector and Country Focus: Must operate within P4G’s eligible countries and target specified sub-sectors such as climate-smart agriculture and renewable energy.
  4. Investability: Be at the seed or post-seed financing stage with a solid business plan and a clear path to commercialization or capital raising.
  5. Enabling System: Show an understanding of the policy and legal frameworks in the country of implementation.
  6. Innovation: Offer a climate solution that is innovative and significantly improved compared to existing industry standards in the country of operation.
  7. Impact: Demonstrate potential for positive climate impact, economic growth, poverty reduction, gender equity, and overall development.
  8. Budget: Include a cost share of at least 30%, excluding in-kind contributions, covering mandatory activities and budget items.
  9. Responsible Business Conduct: Ensure the project does not involve activities on P4G’s exclusion list and either has an ESG plan or will develop one.
  10. Due Diligence: Both lead institutions must show the ability to meet organizational due diligence requirements.

Benefits

Successful P4G partnerships will receive grants averaging USD 350,000, to be implemented over a period of 18-24 months.
