Applications are now open for the 2025 DAAD Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies in the Field of Architecture. This scholarship program provides an excellent opportunity to further your education in Germany, pursuing a postgraduate or continuing course of study in architecture. The program also fosters the exchange of experiences and networking among peers.
Eligibility Requirements
You are eligible to apply if you have obtained your first university degree in one of the following areas by the time your scholarship-supported study program begins:
- Architecture
- Interior Design
- Monument Conservation
- Building in Existing Contexts/Reconditioning of Old Buildings
- Urban Planning/Urban Development
- Landscape Architecture
- Landscape Planning
This program allows you to pursue:
- A Master’s or postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification
- A complementary course that does not result in a final qualification (not an undergraduate course)
Your studies must be at a state or state-recognized German university of your choice. Note that funding is not available for Master’s or postgraduate programs that have already commenced in Germany.
If your program includes a study period abroad, funding for this period is possible only if:
- The study visit is essential to achieving the scholarship’s objectives
- The visit does not occur in your home country
- The visit duration does not exceed a quarter of the scholarship period (or up to 50% for joint and double-degree programs, if stipulated in the study regulations). Longer periods will not be funded, even partially.
Duration of Funding
Master’s Degree Program:
- Duration: Between 10 and 24 months, depending on your chosen program or project.
- Start Date: Typically from October 1 of the following year after application, or earlier if a German language course is taken before the program begins.
- The scholarship is awarded for the standard period of study for your chosen program, up to a maximum of 24 months. Please indicate the full period for which you seek funding in your application. For instance, if you are planning a 2-year degree program, you should directly specify two years as the desired scholarship duration. Your academic achievements will be reviewed after the first year, and if progress is satisfactory, the scholarship will continue as planned.

- Monthly payment of 992 euros

- One-time study allowance
- Contributions towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance
Selection Criteria
- Artistic qualification and maturity, evaluated through academic achievements and work samples
- Quality of the project, assessed by the study plan and motivation letter
