Applications are now open for the 2024 Canon Collins Trust Joel Joffe LLB Scholarships. These scholarships are offered in memory of Joel Joffe, who served as Nelson Mandela’s lawyer during the 1963/64 Rivonia Trial. Joffe played a pivotal role in the fight for democracy in South Africa, and the Trust continues to honor his legacy by encouraging others to promote human rights and combat poverty.
Requirements:
Canon Collins Trust invites applications from current 3rd-year students (entering their 4th year in 2025) pursuing an LLB at either the University of the Western Cape or the University of Fort Hare.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a national of, and normally resident in, South Africa
- Have a strong academic record and active involvement in extra-curricular activities
- Be currently enrolled as a 3rd-year undergraduate Law student at one of the eligible universities
Benefits:
The Canon Collins Trust will provide R40,000 in funding towards your final year of LLB studies. Additionally, recipients will have the opportunity to develop their academic and leadership skills through organized events and will be offered a paid internship at a public interest law firm for approximately five months following graduation.
